My name is Emily Brown. I am a middle school student. We have some1 at school and at home. We can't get to2 late. We have to finish our homework. We can't stay out3 school nights. Some students think these rules are4 , and they don't like them. But I can't5 them. I think these rules can help6 a lot. If we don't follow them,7 can we do well in our studies? For example, our teachers ask us to clean our classroom every day. If we8 , the classroom will be very dirty. It is bad for our health, too. If your parents ask you9 in bed early and you don't listen to them, you can't10 on time next morning. Everyone needs some rules. Do you think so?
Sitting in front of the television may be relaxing, but spending too much time in front of it may take years off your life.Watching television less may help you live a much longer life.
Australian researchers studied more than 11,000 people over the age of 25.Their study showed that if people watched TV for six hours a day, they lived about 4.8 years less than those who didn't watch any television. Also, people who are over the age of 25 lose 22 minutes of life for every hour of TV that they watch.
Sitting in front of the television isn't healthy. The more TV you watch, the less exercise you'll get.And the less exercise you get,the more likely it is that you'll get sick.
Lennert Veerman, the researcher who led the study, says watching too much TV will be bad for people's life expectancies(预期寿命),even for people who have a good diet.He thinks it's necessary for doctors to start asking their patients about how much TV they watch,as it can be an indicator(指标)of someone's overall health.
Therefore,Veerman has called on people to turn off their TVs and get off the sofa to get some exercise."Exercise is good," he said."Even light activity is good for health."
An old woman is going shopping with a basket. She is going by boat. The boat is going across(穿过)the river. Her basket is empty now. Oh dear! Look! Her basket is in the water. "Help! My basket is in the river!"the woman says.
A boy sees the basket. He says, "Don't worry! I can swim. I can get it for you!"He takes off his shirt and shoes. "Look after them for me, please!"he says, and gets into the river.
A duck sees the basket. It says, "I can go by boat. "It thinks the basket is a boat. It gets into the basket.
The boy is swimming in the river. "Where's the basket?"he asks. "It's over there!"says the woman. "It's under that duck!"The boy gets to the basket. "Go away!"he says to the duck. The duck comes out of the basket and swims away.
The boy takes the basket back to the woman. "Oh, thank you very much, "says the woman. "Not at all!"says the boy. "Do you have my shirt and shoes, please?""Yes, here you are. Oh! What's this in the basket?""It's the duck's egg!"
We have twenty minutes' break time after the second class in the morning. Look! Most of us are playing during the break time. Some students are on the playground(操场). They are playing basketball. Oh! A boy is running with the ball. And another is stopping(阻止) him. They look so cool. And there are some girls watching the game. Some students are in the classroom. They are talking. A few of them are reading and doing homework. Look! A girl is looking at the birds in the tree in front of the classroom. She must be thinking of something interesting because she is smiling(微笑).
What are the teachers doing? Some of them are working in the office. And some are talking with students. Everyone is doing his or her things, busy but happy!
