Please tell me what to do with my daughter. We argue a lot. I can feel that she is angry inside and she1 me. I love her very much and I want to make2 happy. I always give her3 she wants except for(除了) going to a private(私立的) university4 we cannot afford it. My daughter is nice to me only when she asks me for5 .
One day she got very6 with me because of some little matters. She started yelling(大叫)at me and talked really fast. I told her to7 so that she could hear what I tried to say. She didn't8 me and went out. I started crying.
It has been four days and we still don't talk to each other. I want to get on well9 her but it seems that she is pushing me away. She doesn't10 to tell me about her anger. What should I do?
These days most people in Britain and the U. S. A. do not wear very formal clothes. But sometimes it is important to wear the right clothes.
Many British people don't think about clothes very much. They just like to be comfortable. When they want to enjoy themselves, they can wear almost anything. At theaters, cinemas and concerts you can wear whatever you like. From beautiful suits and dresses to jeans and sweaters. Anything goes as long as (只要) you look clean and tidy.
But in Britain and the U. S. A. , men in offices usually wear suits and ties, and women wear dresses or skirts(not trousers). Doctors and business people always wear quite formal clothes. And in some hotels and restaurants men have to wear ties and women have to wear tidy dresses.
In many ways, Americans are less formal than British people, but they are more careful with their clothes. At home or on holidays, most Americans wear uniforms or sports clothes. But when they go out in the evening, they like to look nice. But in good hotels and restaurants, men have to wear jackets and ties, and women wear pretty clothes.
It's hard to say exactly what people wear in Britain and the U. S. A. , because everyone is different. If you are not sure what to wear, watch first and then do the same. You'll feel more comfortable if you don't look too different from everyone else.
Dear Knowledgeable,
I have a good friend, Ann. She is very clever and can speak English really well. A very important English speech contest for our whole city will be held next month. Our classmates all think Ann is the best person to represent the class in the school contest and make sure she will win. But the problem is that she's very shy and that she's terrified of speaking in front of other people.
She can't tell others about it, because she doesn't want to let her friends down. I can't think of any good advice to give her, but you always come up with good solutions to people's problems. Can you give us some good advice? Do you think we can tell the truth to the rest of the students?
Yours,
Rose
There are some easy things you can do tothe environment and the earth. Choose ideas from the list or comewith a few of your own.
·Plant flowers, grass or trees.
·Whenever you visit a park or beach, take away what you bring there—keep rubbish in a bagyou can put it in a dustbin.
·Turnthe lights and TV sets when you leave the room. This can save a lot of electricity.
·Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. You can save some water by not letting it run. Also, use a glass cupof a paper cup because this saves paper.
·Keep the doors and windowsin winter to keep warm air in.
·Give your old books and magazinesa library instead of throwing them away.
·Give your old clothes to poor children you know instead of throwing them away.
·Use both sides of paper.
·Stopdirty water into the rivers or lakes nearby.
·Encourage all your friends to do the same things you do to help protect the earth.
You don't have tountil Earth Day to do these things. Make every day Earth Day. If everyone makes a contribution to protecting the, the world will become much more beautiful.
