We encourage you to take pictures of the collection and special exhibitions for personal use. Signs indicate the few works that are not allowed to be photographed due to a lender requirement.

You are welcome to use your phone to take pictures, text, and use the museum's app-anything that does not disturb other visitors. If you need to make a phone call, please do so in a non-gallery space.

Art Institute visitors can drop off their cars at the Modern Wing entrance (159 East Monroe Street) and walk right into the museum. The valet service is available daily from 10:30 a. m. until one-half hour after closing.

Ruby was a police dog with the Rhode Island State Police, but she didn't always work with them. Ruby was once a handful who was in and out of the sheller. She was returned five times by different families. She was considered unadoptable because of her high energy and she was just unmanageable
The shelter workers thought her energy may be put to work. They reached the state police, who wanted to give Ruby a second chance and decided to try her out as a rescue dog. O'Neil was picked to be her handler (驯犬员) .
"We have something in common. When I was younger, I couldn't focus and I wasn't good at school. But no one really ever gave up on me," O'Neil said. "I think that's why we were bound to be together." A normal dog could be trained in months. For Ruby, it took a year and a half, but O'Neil didn't want to give up on her. Finally, she was a certified police dog. Six years later, she became even more than that -a hero.
"We got a call stating there was a missing boy, and we just went out and started searching. After eight hours, Ruby ran down a hill. I looked over the hill and saw the injured boy," ONeil recalled.
O'Neil went to tell the mother that the boy was found alive and told her a police dog helped save her son. Then they realised a surprising connection: the boy's mum once worked at an animal shelter. "There was a dog that I heard became a state trooper (兵) a few years ago. The dog was named Ruby. She was the sweetest thing," she told him.
"Are you kidding?" O'Neil said. "That dog that you helped for all those times to get adopted just saved your son's life."
Hem an Bekele is not your typical high school student．Rather than spending his free time playing video games or staring at his phone, this 14 year-old from Fairfax, Virginia was calling professors and conducting experiments, all to create a soap that could treat skin cancer, and to make it affordable for everyone who needs it．His work won him the grand prize in this year's 3M Young Scientist's Challenge, a competition that encourages kids to think of unique ways to solve everyday problems.
Growing up in Ethiopia, Bekele found in pity that people working outside were likely to end up getting skin cancer．Skin cancer did have cures and was treatable in most cases．However, the average price of skin cancer treatment globally was almost $40,000．Those shocking statistics really inspired him to create a more accessible solution. He started doing experiments and working on different things, and that turned into his bar of soap as a project.
A lot of his research and development started in his family's kitchen and in his basement．But as he reached the final of the competition, he realized that he did need to do a little bit more outside of just his house．So he reached out to people at University of Virginia and people at Georgetown, and he got a lot of assistance．The number one person would be Deborah Isabelle, who helped him organize and structure his ideas during the finalist competition．Bekele said that he definitely couldn't have done that all by himself.
Bekele's award-winning soap is a compound based bar of soap and it's charged with different cancer fighting chemicals．The color of the soap is a bit of a dark type of white and it has a rough surface, which could be a good exfoliant（去角质剂）．It does have a strong medicine smell and feel a bit stickier．The whole point of it is that even once you wash off the soaps, the medicinal parts will stay on your skin．It can activate the body's immune cells to defend cancer.
Bekele won 25,000 prize money and he was going to use it to continue research．He said, "I still need a lot of resources to be able to conduct this research, so this money will definitely help me achieve it."
Wild turkeys are a familiar sight throughout New Hampshire, where flocks wander along roadsides and through backyards.
In 1975, Ted Walski, the biologist for New Hampshire Fish and Game, released 25 turkeys from the back of his truck in Walpole, a town in the western part of the state. It was part of a reintroduction effort to bring back a species that had been wiped out in New England before the Civil War, where it used to suffer heavy blows — forests vanished for unknown reasons and people got their own way to hunt.
"Originally, I never thought it would get beyond a few thousand turkeys," says Walski, who spent nearly 50 years working with the birds before retiring in 2019.
Instead, New Hampshire's turkey population has exploded beyond all expectations, now around 45,000 animals — the highest since the reintroduction, and probably the most the state can approach. Reintroduction efforts in neighboring states and around the country have created a similar story — there are 70,000 wild turkeys in Maine, up to 50,000 in Vermont, and more than 30,000 in Massachusetts — all of which total up to about six million animals reproducing in all states but Alaska.
So what made the wild turkey one of the most successful wildlife reintroduction programs in American history? Most likely, it's due to the bird's surprising and unexpected ability to live among humans. In the suburbs, turkeys can take advantage of edge habitat, like woods and open spaces, and dine on a never-ending buffet of food provided by people — particularly birdseed. Besides, it doesn't hurt that native predators, such as wolves and cougars, have largely disappeared from most parts of the turkey's range.
But everyone is not thankful for the New England turkey boom. The infamously bold birds are troublesome, disturbing traffic and pecking at front doors, as well as potentially dangerous. In 2019, a 35-year-old pregnant woman was attacked by turkeys on the streets of Cambridge, Massachusetts — twice. As conflicts between these 20-pound birds and people are on the rise, particularly during the spring breeding season, wildlife officials are trying to cope with the reality that the turkey is here to stay.

You can become more compassionate (有同情心的). This is something that you will come to appreciate when you use your garden to the fullest. Recognizing the gifts that nature gives you can help to increase your compassion, to recognize that others are less fortunate, and to reach out to others in a wide range of ways.

"Keep this a secret," Jessica whispered to me, "and the money is yours, Raelyn." After saying that, she looked me in the eye with a stare that was intense. It looked like it was saying, "Do not betray (背叛) my trust." Then, she gathered her books from her locker and walked off.
I quickly came to my senses after I agreed to Jessica's strange request. Why did I agree? Just for money? My eyes widened. I quickly thought of an excuse. "She's in the toilet now. I think she's having a stomach ache." Then, many more thoughts rushed through my mind. After a big struggle and debating in my mind, I decided to tell the truth.
Before Aunt May could reply. I said directly. "Aunt May, I'm sorry I lied to you just now. Well...you see. Jessica isn't at my place doing our project. She went to East Coast Park to meet her online friend. She asked me to keep it a secret, but I had to betray her. This is for her own good if her online friend is a bad person." I paused and then added, "I think you and Uncle Ron should look for her now before it's too late."
