No one is born a winner. People build themselves into winners by working hard.
I learned this lesson from an 1 many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in Georgia. It was a small school with a 2 football program.
It was a tradition for the school's old team to play 3 the new team at the end of spring practice. The old team had no coach, and they didn't even practice to 4 the game. As the coach of the new team, I was 5 because I knew we were going to win, but we lost. I couldn't 6 I had got into such a situation. Thinking about it 7 , I came to realize I had to change my attitude (态度) towards their 8 .
I began to help them build confidence. Most 9 , I started to treat them like winners. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their vacation, we 10 hard every day, passing and kicking the football.
Six months after our failure, we finally faced the No. 1 team on the field. I felt it would be a 11 for us even though we lost the game. But that was not what happened. My team beat the 12 in Georgia!
From the experience, I learned how the attitude of the leader can 13 the members of a team. Instead of seeing my team as 14 , I encouraged them. I helped them see themselves differently, and they built themselves into winners.
Winners are 15 , not born! When you have a dream, go for it!

There is a little weed (野草) that grows in a field. All around it stand tall, beautiful flowers. The weed didn't like them, for its own flowers were tiny (微小的) and common.
Children like to play in the field all year round, but spring is their favorite because they can pick beautiful flowers! They come and go, singing and laughing.
One day, two sisters came to pick flowers for their grandma. They picked many and soon almost all the flowers were gone.
"What about that one?" one said, pointing at the weed.
"Forget it!" said the other. "That's just a worthless weed!"
It made the weed feel sad. "Am I really worthless?" It asked itself. "Why was I even put on this earth?" With all the nearby flowers gone, the little weed felt lonely. Even though it didn't like them, it liked having them around.
The winds of autumn blew over the field, and they were soon followed by the snow of winter. The little weed stood alone in the wild.
Just then, it noticed some birds flying high above the field.
"We are hungry!" they said "Where can we find food?"
The weed felt sorry for the poor birds and called out to them. "Down here! I have tasty seeds (种子) that you can eat!" The weed scattered (撒播) its little brown seeds across the snow. The birds ate the seeds and thanked the weed politely. "You are so kind!" they said as they flew away.
This made the little weed very happy. It was glad to help its new friends!
From then on, the birds have often come to visit the little weed. "I have found out what I am good for!" the weed said. "Next year, I will make more seeds so that I can feed all those hungry birds!"

The natural world is colorful with humans, plants and animals showing different colors.
There can be many different colors in human skin and it changes with the sun, our feelings or our health for example. This is because of pigments (色素), which reflect light and make what the eye sees as colors. When we feel excited or angry, the heart can send more blood to the face and the pigments in the skin become red. This is why we have the expression that someone "sees red" when they are angry.
Plants also have pigments. Color is important for them to live on. The bright colors of flowers catch the attention of insects, which then carry their pollen (花粉) from one flower to another. Bees can see colors we cannot, and they follow them to the inside of flowers. Without bees visiting flowers in this way, many plants would die out.
Animals also use color for their own needs. They protect themselves with different colors so as not to be seen by predators. The snowshoe hare for example, a kind of wild rabbit, changes color with seasons for this reason. During summer it is a brown color, and in winter it is white so that it can hide in the snow. However, some animals use color as a warning to make predators stay away. Bright colors such as yellow and red are often used in this way. Nature, however, is very clever, and predators also use colors to attract the animals they feed on.
So, we can see that there may be many different reasons and uses for colors in the natural world. Some uses of color in nature remain unknown, but one thing is for sure, color not only makes our planet beautiful but it is also necessary for our planet to live on.
The lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon so the date of Lunar New Year is different each year. As well as being celebrated in China, Lunar New Year is also an important festival in many other places, including Vietnam, Singapore and South Korea.
Different places celebrate in slightly different ways, but Lunar New Year is a family celebration wherever it takes place. The young greet their parents and grandparents with good wishes for the year ahead and show their respect for the old. Old members of the family give the young money as presents, traditionally in small packets. Red packets are used in China, South Korea and Vietnam, as red is a lucky color.
Traditional foods which are eaten at Lunar New Year often have another meaning. It's because the Chinese word for "fish" sounds similar to "surplus", meaning you will have plenty of what you need.
For example, in Vietnam, people believe that the first person to enter their home in the New Year will decide their luck for the year ahead. They are careful to invite someone who is kind, well behaved and successful. In South Korea, families often play traditional board games together. They watch street performances, in which dancers dress up as a lion or a dragon. All the celebrations are about wishing everyone the very best for the year ahead.
A. In China, many people set off firecrackers (鞭炮). B. They kneel on the ground and bow deeply. C. In another way it is bad luck to say new year wishes to everybody. D. There are many other Lunar New Year traditions. E. However, it is usually in January or February. F. For example, in China, many people eat fish dishes. |

Hansen is from Europe. He came to Zhadong Village in Guangxi in 2018, and worked there for several years to help the people there get rich.
"The first time I came to the village, I was at its natural beauty. The adobe (土坯) houses fit the green environment perfectly," recalled Hansen, a 63-year-old retired policeman. " I entered the houses, I found the people was poor."
During that visit, Hansen met Xie Wanju, then the first Party secretary (书记) of the village. "I will forget the first moment we met because this changed my whole life. When we met him, he was the villagers get rich. That was interesting. I said, ‘If you need help, I have time,' " he recalled. Since then, he had worked the village's first Party secretary's assistant.
Hansen suggested the village use a field to build a farm, and he also took part in the building . With Hansen's help, Xie and the farmers developed cattle and sheep breeding (饲养) and fruit planting. Today, the brings over 100,000 yuan to the villagers each year. People in the village are rich now.
Hansen was quite satisfied with his work in the village. "Now has changed. The adobe houses have already gone. The people there live a much life. They live in new houses with a separate kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and bedrooms. There is also electricity and Internet connection."
Hansen returned to his city in May, 2021 after he finished his voluntary work. However, he often back to the village to visit his old friends. He often introduces local tourism by sharing pictures of local scenery on social media (媒体) with his friends in Europe.
On Earth, sunlight can be covered by clouds and there is no sunlight at night. But in space, the sun shines all the time.
Imagine being able to use energy from the sun all the time. Scientists at Caltech (California Institute of Technology) are working on collecting sunlight in space and sending its energy to Earth. They have created a special tool called MAPLE for this project. MAPLE's job is to test the idea of sending energy wirelessly (无线地) from space to Earth. It is a lot more difficult because we usually use wires to move electrical energy from one place to another.
To show that MAPLE could work, the scientists did a test. MAPLE sent energy to two devices (设备) 30 cm away in space. The energy was then turned into electricity, MAPLE sent energy to a lab at Caltech. The scientists were able to discover the energy, showing that it's possible to send energy from the sun to Earth from space.
The scientists at Caltech are now trying to find ways to improve MAPLE. In the future they hope to launch (发射) many large devices. Each will have huge solar panels (太阳能电池板), along with MAPLE devices to send the energy down to Earth wirelessly.
Using MAPLE, the scientists will be able to send the power to exactly where they want it, either in space or on Earth. Dr. Hajimiri, thinks that one day MAPLE could bring energy to places that need it, helping more people all over the world.
