My mother asked me to call my grandmother. What could we possibly have a 1 about? Nothing! I just did what she told me and called my grandmother.
When she 2 the phone, I planned to have a small, 10-minute exchange. However, she invited me to have lunch at her house so we could talk together. I agreed.
After hanging up the phone. I immediately 3 agreeing to the lunch date on Saturday. Surprisingly, my Saturday morning wasn't 4 . I found it was nice to see her. Have you ever paid attention to your school's security guards or dining hall staff? Would you say "good morning" to your school's cleaners? For high school student Ding Jiacheng, it's a problem that many students ignore (忽视) the important jobs done by the non-teaching workers. He wanted to make a change.
The boy from Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School, together with several other students, carried out a project—"The Invisible are Important". They hoped more students would see and respect such staff on campus. The project won a prize at China Thinks Big, a competition held by Harvard and Tsinghua University to encourage teenagers to study social issues.
"My team members and I sent questionnaires to 13 students," said Ding. "In one question, I percent of the students said they would say hello to those non-teaching workers, while only 17 percent strongly believe that every student should do so."
The team also observed the interactions between students and workers. "While most students follow the rules of the teachers, one-third of the students go against the rules of the dormitory attendants (宿舍管理员)." said Ding. It shows that students treat non—teaching differently from teaching staff.
The main reason, according to Ding, is that students know little about the work done by teaching non-teaching staff. They also have few chances to communicate with them. Therefore, Ding's team videos to show staff working on campus. They also held a basketball match between students and non-teaching staff to increase their interactions: We've also made a series of stickers, said Ding. "We hope these cute images will help young people like the non-teaching workers more. The activity helped me understand that we all can make a positive influence through our creative ideas."
①Shot videos to show staff working. ②Asked China Thinks Big to help
③Sent questionnaires to draw students' attention. ④Held games between students and staff.
⑤Made stickers with cute images. ⑥Asked the teacher for help.
When my best friend and I were teenagers, our favorite place to bang out was the Hallmark store. If we had money, we would choose a perfect card for each other and then share tears or smiles depending on what emotion the words expressed. In these coming years we developed a friendship built or sincere (真挚的) feelings and we often found comfort in the words of a Hallmark card. I think it is perhaps since those years that I have become a greeting card collector.
The other day, while cleaning out the storage (储藏室) in my home, I came across the bag where I have kept greeting cards. They are the lasting messages that speak the meanings of my life.★It has astick drawing on the front that seems to be my portrait (肖像画) , I laughed as I realized this is exactly how my oldest daughter saw her mum. Opening it up I saw a hand-drawn heart with eyes and a big smile. On the other side are some words "You are the best mum in the world!" This may be one card that Hallmark cards cannot compete with for it is a treasure more precious than gold. I can't go back to where I've been, but from time to time, I can be taken into a welcomedmemorytrip.
These are the Hallmark moments of our lives. Words from once upon a time inspire us to appreciate the people in our lives who mean so much. When we sometimes have doubts, or when the world treats us unfairly, the encouraging words are there in black and white, sometimes drawn in a homemade stick drawing with a heart-shaped smiling face standing out from the rest.
Life is a Hallmark card when you care enough to send the very best.

Volunteers are probably some of the most overlooked (被忽视的) people. But no activity would carry on smoothly hardworking volunteers.
This month, I volunteered at the Color Run in Melbourne. Although I didn't have as much fun the runners, I still learned an important lesson.
My job was to give a high-five to every runner at the finish line. At the (begin) we saw it as a simple job. When the first runner (pass), we reached out our hands and yelled "Good job" (excite). However, as more and more people (cross) the finish line and touchedheir hands with mine, my arm got sore. But soon we saw a group of kids running towards us--they were about 6 years old. Although they could catch their breath, they still kept going with big smileson their faces. They put up their hands and said, "High-five!"At that moment, I was quite touched -they were so young, and they (refuse) to give up. Suddenly, I felt myself become full of strength. Iclapped their hands, "Well done, guys!" That is the (mean) of being a volunteer. It is never aneasy job. However, we meet different people and see the spirit that moves them. Even if such spirit is not often found in daily life, it can (encourage) us a lot when we do see it occasionally.
