Most Chinese parents have great hope of their children. When children are born, their parents have planned everything for them. Many children in China are unhappy. They live a planned life and are made to fulfill the dreams that their parents have planned for them.
There are two sides to parents' hope. The hope can encourage (鼓励) children to work harder for a better life. According to some studies, whether a child will be successful or not depends largely on his or her parents' hope. However, unrealistic (不现实的) hope can be bad to children. Every child has his or her own thoughts and feelings. Parents' hope can take children's freedom away. Wise parents allow their children to have some freedom. They encourage their children to do things they like to do and never judge (评判) them only by their grades.
My parents' hope of me is to be happy, kind and healthy. They never put too much pressure (压力) on me, ★ . However, I have my own dreams. I will never give up because my parents always encourage me when I am in trouble.
In a word, I think parents' hope is necessary. However, parents should not give their children too much pressure. Parents must make sure their hope of their children is realistic so that their children will not lose their confidence.
Many people want to buy the newest gadget (小玩意), the fastest car and the most expensive watch—but are these things really worth?
For some people, these things give them status (地位). They're cool because they have a cool car, or they're better at the newest Xbox game. Lots of people say that buying new things makes them happy. They like having new, pretty and impressive things. The problem is that people don't stay happy, and the feeling you get when you buy something new disappears. For example, there's a new iPhone. You stop liking your old car. Your friends have Beats in a different color and they're so much nicer! Things get old and outdated, and someone else always has something better.
So, what can you buy and stay happy with? A research suggests that the best thing to spend your extra (额外的) money on is doing things like traveling, learning to cook, speaking a language, skiing or surfing. What about going to the theater, eating at a Michelin star restaurant or climbing a mountain?
In the long term (从长远来看), people are happier with money they spend on activities than on things. You don't remember what shoes you wore, but you remember running the marathon! When you do new things or things you enjoy, you get life experience and memories. You can share them with people. Even if you don't enjoy the experience, you can learn something and often a little while later you see the good sides of it. At least, it's a story to tell—maybe even a funny one.
So forget about designer clothes and fancy gadgets—a new skill or experience lasts longer!

At least once a week, the old lady would continue to call for Donna—sometimes more! Every call started , "Hello, Donna! How are you?" She never cared it was the wrong number. She could only spend 10 or 15 minutes on the phone before getting (tire) and ending the communication with goodbye.
The whole thing lasted for about a year. Then the calls just stopped. Why didn't she call? Did (something) unexpected happen? At first my mom felt worried and had trouble (fall) asleep.
