Friday 10 October
It's a sunny and pleasant day. I was tidying my room this morning and found an old 1 in a notebook. As I was looking at it, the 2 memory of that day came back to me.
It was my mother's 3 birthday ten years ago, and I decided to surprise her with home-made scrambled eggs. I woke up really early and walked to the 4 quietly. I had never cooked anything before, so I tried to copy how 5 did it. But somehow they ended up burnt.
I was about to throw everything away when my mother 6 . I showed her the eggs and 7 explained what happened. To my surprise, she tasted them and said they weren't bad! I guess 8 is indeed a magical ingredient. 9 we took this wonderful photo, laughing and ate them all.
This weekend is her 45th birthday. I'll make her scrambled eggs 10 . This time, they won't be burnt!

I LOVE CHINESEI
David Brown is a 15-year-old boy from the UK. This summer he is studying Chinese in a summer camp in Gansu Province. This is what he told our interviewer.
What do you think of Gansu?
Well, I think it's fantastic. Summer is the best season to visit Gansu. I enjoy the pleasant weather a lot. Gansu also has many pretty views with a long history.
Is there anything else you especially like about it?
Yes, the friendly people and delicious foods.
When we were in Tianshui City 3 days ago, we tried malatang, a traditional spicy hot pot dish. I like it a lot. Beef noodles and niangpizi are also my favorites. I haven't tried huidouzi. But it seems very tasty.
Where are you staying in Gansu?
I'm staying with some very nice families in different cities in Gansu. That's quite helpful for learning Chinese and experiencing the life and culture here. That's why I've chosen home-stay.
Do you like learning Chinese?
I enjoy learning Chinese because it's interesting and has a rich history. Chinese characters are beautiful, and the language offers many chances. Being able to speak Chinese will be very helpful in the future. I want to be a Chinese teacher when I'm older.

A Healthy Mind
The brain is an amazing part of our body. Even with lots of research, no one can fully understand it. Like our bodies, it needs simple care. Sleeping well, eating right, and taking deep breaths help look after our bodies and brains.
Some think the brain slows with age, and memory weakens. ①However, we can ____. I help my memory by picturing what to remember. ②If I need bread, milk, and a birthday card for my brother, I imagine a piece of bread, a box of milk with a cow on the front, and a birthday card with a football on it.
This method works for remembering important dates too. It's easier to recall events with a mental picture than just a date on a calendar.
③Exploring new places and having new experiences help the mind as well. Personally, learning another language keeps my brain active. Any language communication is important. Talking is better for your brain than watching TV or a screen.
