About one year ago, my grandfather was ill His illness influenced his legs and made it difficult for him to take care of himself. So my family started looking for nursing homes(养老院). It took us two weeks before making a decision. Unluckily, he had to stay there until he improved.  Then I knew the care and service old people needed and how important it was to volunteer at a nursing home. 

I did voluntary work at my grandfather's nursing home last summer. I volunteered two days a week during the summer. I learned many things about nursing homes, including the old people's life, the care they received and the environment around them. 

I worked with Dr. Smith, the one who arranged_activities for the old. I read their children's letters to them. Besides, I helped them on special days like Ice Cream Day, Summer Picnic Day and Clown Around Day. I also took the old people for walks. We also had birthday parties for them. 

I had many good experiences both volunteering and visiting my grandfather. My volunteering experience showed that I could bring joy to old people. Everyone will have to face their parents

and grandparents growing older. 

Seahorses are small, thin fish. Even though they're fish, seahorses aren't great swimmers. Instead, they often use their tails(尾巴)to hold onto something in the water. 

There are over forty different kinds of seahorses. Many kinds of them are in dangerbecause of the actions of hum:uns. Sometimes people catch and sell them as pets. They are also sometimes caught by accident when boats are trying to catch other fish. 

Seahorses are unusual because they are the fathers who carry the babies. Fathers can carryover 100 babies at a time. When babies are born, they are about the size of a grain of rice. 

Last year, around 380 seahorses were set free into the wild. To begin the project, scientists collected three"pregnant(怀孕的)"father seahorses and brought them to the aquarium(水族 馆). After the babies were born, the scientists kept them at the aquarium for five months, looking after them. About a month before the young seahorses were set free, the scientists created eight underwater "hotels"to provide a safe place for them to develop. Putting the hotels into the sea early allowed the hotels to be covered with small sea life that can help provide food for the

seahorses. 

This is the fifth time the scientists have set free seahorses into the area. Brett Fenton, a scientist of this project, said, "We have high expectations(期待)that we'll see the number of the animals grow. "

An electric car has an electric motor (发动机)that runs on batteries. Instead of filling with gas. an electric car owner get  charged(充电). What happens when the batteries run down? You need to find somewhere to recharge. It can take a long time to recharge an electric car. That's not as easy to use as a quick stop at a gas station. 

Hybrid(gas &electric)

A hybrid car has two engines—one uses gas and the other uses electricity. For short trips, it turns on batteries like an electric car. But if the batteries are low, the car can change to the gas engine. This can be a good choice for people who are worried about the batteries running out halfway through a trip. But when the car burns gas, it sill gives off waste gases like a regular car. 

Solar  power

A solar car has an electric motor that runs on batteries. But the batteries are only charged by the solar panels(面板)on the car's body. To charge up, you just need to park the car in the sun! But making solar panels and batteries that are powerful enough to move a car is very expensive. It might take much time before solar cars come to the public.

Chinese kung fu is also known as Chinese martial(军事的)arts. It   is  an (importance) part of traditional Chinese culture. And it is probably one of  the  (early) sports. 

Chinese kung fu dates back to the primitive(原始的)society. At   that  time, people  used sticks  (fight)against wild animals. Little by little, they learnt skills to protect (them). Kung fu  (begin)to be used to train soldiers during the Shang Dynasty. 

Over centuries of development, the tern"kung fu"has now covered a number of fighting (style). The most famous ones are tai chi, Shaolin kung fu and qinggong

Although it is about fighting. kung fu advocates(倡导)peace instead  violence (暴力) . This has been the common values shared by martial artists from generation(代) to generation

Chinese kung fu has to do with exercise, self-defense(自卫)  fitness. In recent years, it has become more and more popular among people of ll ages around the world. 

The most famous kung fu star is called Bruce Lee!He was  founder of Jeet Kune Do(截拳道)and made Chinese kung fu  (good)known throughout the world.
