Every time when I felt sick or upset, I liked to go to a special place. There I could relax 1 and feel better. It was the club. I 2 the club three years ago. My sister recommended (推荐) this place to me. She told me that I could find much fun there. It was near my house and our hospital. I usually stayed there 3 two or three hours and went home. I loved the club 4 I felt comfortable there.
The club only allowed women to be members. It was 5 women's club in my country. There 6 a lot of space to do different activities. You could see a beautiful warm water pool. You could find many big rooms behind the pool. There was a cold room, 7 exercise room, an MTV center, a massage center and two restaurants.
Everyone knew working in the hospital caused many stresses (压力). I needed 8 a way to help myself. 9 was the best choice for me. I often took a shower first and then swam for 20 minutes to relax myself. I liked to watch a video and take a nap 10 when I finished the exercise.
Although it costs a lot of money to be a club member, I hope I can join the club again when I come back to my country.
A young man moved to his new house. He really liked this place. But there was a(n) 1 .
He found a dog was sitting on a wooden board (木板) and whining (呜咽) all the time. He thought the dog would stop soon. But this didn't happen. The young man couldn't 2 it anymore. He got out and wanted to 3 the sound. In front of a house he saw a man reading newspapers. The young man said, "Sir, your dog whines all the time."
"Yeah, I 4 ," replied that man.
"Please 5 what's the matter with him," the young man said. "Then you can help him."
"He is sitting on top of a nail (钉子) and it's 6 his stomach," the man said.
The young man was 7 to hear his answer. He asked, "If so, why doesn't he get up from the board?"
"It has been his rest place for a long time, but yesterday a nail stuck (插入) through the board. When the dog sat there, the nail pricked (戳) him. Maybe it was not hurting too much, or he would 8 himself," replied the man.
There are 9 nails in our lives which keep pricking us, like health problems and bad habits. We often do nothing 10 they don't hurt so much. Don't you think we are just as silly (愚蠢的) as the dog? Why not do something about the nail right away before it brings us trouble?

Shyness is a kind of fear (恐惧). People who are shy always worry too much about what people think of them. They are also afraid of speaking in front of people. How can we overcome (战胜) shyness then?
Have a good posture (姿态).
Your posture says a lot about yourself. People with sloped (倾斜的) shoulders don't think of themselves as important people. So stand up straight, keep your head up, and always make eye contact (接触). By practicing a good posture, you will feel much better.
Walk faster.
You can tell what a person is like by the way he walks. People who walk in a slow way and look at the ground while walking usually have no confidence in themselves, while people who believe in themselves walk faster. That is because they know clearly what important things to do, friends to meet, and places to go, etc. So walk a little faster, hold your head up, and look straight ahead.
Do some exercise.
Exercise can cheer you up. That will put you in a more positive (积极的) state of mind. By doing exercise, you will feel sure of yourself. Think about it. It is better to do some exercise than just watching TV all day.
Do things that make you feel good about yourself.
This can be anything that you really like doing. You can go to the cinema listen to music, go traveling or help someone out of a problem.

What Would You Do is a TV program on American ABC. The program which is hosted by the news reporter John Quinones is popular with many people. It tests what people will do when they see someone is in trouble in order to remind us to stand up for the people in need. Here is last week's program.
In a cake shop, two actors acted as a blind woman named Pamela and a man clerk who looked down upon the blind. Hidden cameras were recording what would happen. The blind woman came into the shop and bought a box of twelve cup cakes. The clerk treated the woman badly at first. Then he cheated her when he gave her the change. He only gave her 6 single dollar bills instead of 34 dollars.
Would someone be brave enough to stand up for the blind woman? Yes! A customer(顾客) in the cake shop stopped the clerk from cheating the blind and treating her badly. And other customers joined in soon. John appeared in the end and interviewed the first customer who helped Pamela out. She said it was necessary to give a hand to the people in need. "A psychology(心理学) professor once said," she said, "It's difficult to take the first step to stand up. It needs courage."
