All English learners want to improve their English, but as you know, it can be difficult! To learn English well, you need to work on many areas. Reading is one of them.
Reading English is something you can do to help you learn on your own. When reading, take a dictionary with you to look up new words and then write them down in a notebook. Try to use these new words in conversations. It's a great way to learn. Newspapers are good for higher level students. But for lower level students, try reading children's stories or books written in easy English. You won't learn much if you choose a book that is too difficult or too easy. You should find something that will be challenging and interesting. How can you find something wonderful to read? The Internet is full of what you can read.
When reading, don't try to understand every word, and don't keep reaching for the dictionary! Instead, try to understand the meaning of the text first and then read it again for more details. For words you don't understand, try learning how to guess the meaning from the context(上下文), or look at the other words in the sentence that might help you.
Last year, my English class was difficult. First of all, it wasn't easy for me(understand) the teacher when she talked. To begin with, she spoke too(quick), and I couldn't understand every word. Later on, I realized that it doesn't matter if you don't understand every word. I was afraid1 (speak) in class, because I thought my classmates might laugh me. I couldn't always make complete sentences, . Then I started to watch English TV programmes. They (help) a lot. I think that(do) lots of listening practice is one of the secrets of becoming a good language learner. Another thing that I found very difficult (be) English grammar. I decided to take lots of grammar notes in every class. Then I started to make my own original sentences with the grammar I was learning. It's amazing how much this helped. Now I am enjoying(learn) English. I got an A this term and my teacher was very happy.
