Do you have any close friends? I'm sure you do. Everyone has a 1 friend or two.
I recently learned an interesting lesson about the power of 2 . It was a story about two friends—a Canadian girl named Jessica Stuart and a Japanese girl named Fukue. Stuart's parents got new jobs in Japan and moved there to 3 when she was a child. After Stuart met Fukue at school, they became good friends. Stuart often 4 Fukue from bullies (欺凌弱小者). After one year, Stuart's family moved back home. Stuart and Fukue stayed in 5 by writing letters to each other. 6 , after two years, Fukue's letters stopped coming. Stuart was confused (困惑不解的). Why did the letters stop? She began a long journey to find her 7 friend again. Many years later, she found Fukue. Both girls were adults by then. It 8 that Fukue dropped out of school because she was bullied again. That happened after Stuart 9 . Luckily, they were able to find each other again, 10 after many years apart.
Not every friendship can last forever. People come and go. But true friends can find a way to stay together forever—even if they've been far apart for a long time.
If you finish your homework quickly after lunch on weekends, you and your friend decide to visit a bookstore. Here are some suggestions for you.
It's the weekend. Go to a bookstore with friends!
1. Before leaving home, it's important to give your parents a call. Let them know where you are going, who you are going with, and when you plan to return.
2. After meeting with your friend, you walk to the bookstore. You need to walk on the sidewalk and wait for the traffic lights. You may talk with each other happily when walking. But always remember to watch for cars.
3. The bookstore is very crowded! Try to stay with your friend. Don't chat with strangers. You may find some books interesting, but it is better to put them down and go back home before 9:30 pm.
4. You may want to buy a burger for dinner. You can pay for it with your smartwatch or phone. If you need to enter the password (输密码), make sure no one else is watching.
On February 9th, 2013, Sarah Darling was walking along the street when she met a homeless man named Billy Ray Harris. She reached into her purse, emptied out all the coins she had and gave them to the homeless man. Neither of them realized that this small act would change their lives.
Sarah didn't realize that she had given Billy not only all her change but also her diamond ring (钻戒) that she had put in her purse earlier until the following morning. She and her husband, Bill Krejci, rushed to see if they could find Billy. The homeless man was not only in the same place, he also immediately returned the ring. The grateful couple paid him back for his honesty by emptying out their pockets of all the money they had.
Bill Krejci, a web designer, felt that he needed to do something more for this honest man. So on February 18th, he set up a special page to raise money for him. In just four days, Billy received over $85, 000 and there seems to be no end yet.
That is not enough. Billy is living with a person who is generous (慷慨的) instead of living in the streets. And that's not all—thanks to the news report, he got together again with his older brother, Edwin Harris, who he had been unable to find for 27 years.
All the good luck is just because Billy did the right thing—returning something that did not belong to him.
Wang Qiuyuan, 15, Jiangsu In China, we celebrated the May Day holiday recently. I want to know about the public holidays in your country and how you celebrate them. |
Wang Jiayue, 12, Singapore In Singapore, we have 11 public holidays every year. There are many celebrations, such as Chinese New Year which gives us a two-day break, while on other holidays we only have one day off. During the holidays, my family and I usually decorate the house. |
Jaehyun, 14, South Korea I'd like to introduce a special holiday in South Korea. It's called Chuseok (秋夕), and it takes place around September each year. It's a kind of fall harvest festival, which is similar to the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. We get to eat a lot on that day, such as songpyeon (松糕), which is a type of rice cake. It's in the shape of a half-moon. |
Wang Yunru, 12, Australia Many holidays in Australia have something to do with religion (宗教), such as Easter and Christmas. Our Labor Day falls on Oct. 2. You may be surprised that we have a day off for Valentine's Day. It's on Feb. 14. Although some people may celebrate it in a romantic (浪漫的) way, such as by sending cards to lovers, most people just choose to rest. We may also go shopping because the season is changing. |
Olivia House, 12, UK In England, there are usually eight bank holidays each year. Some are important religious days, such as Christmas and Easter. Others may celebrate traditions in England, like May 1, which is May Day. We celebrate the beginning of summer and the hard work of workers on that day. |
C It is similar to Mid-Autumn Festival in China.
D. People eat a lot of food such as a kind of rice cake.Have you noticed that some people succeed, while others may not? This is because some people own certain qualities while others don't have. If you want to be successful, you should remember the following things.
The first thing you must remember is that in order to succeed, you must have a strong wish. If you do not expect to win, you will not try as hard as those who do expect to win. You also need to have a clear purpose and reason for doing something. If you do not have a purpose, you will not do your best to work hard and make sure that every detail you have done is right.
Reading is another thing to remember, as it will help you learn about how other people have achieved success. If you want to learn how to set up a successful business, you should read books about some successful people who have achieved amazing success in their areas of business, such as Jerry Yang.
Another thing that helps people succeed is creativity -- thinking about things differently and wondering how others will do the same thing. Think about some successful people you know. They might be successful with a little creativity, but the most successful people are the most creative ones.
Practicing is essential if you want to succeed because practice makes perfect. Practice every day for the job you are in, and by doing so, you will see yourself, your business and your self-confidence begin to grow. If you feel confident about what you do, this confidence will make other people believe in you more as well. Your workmates will be happy to work with you, and your boss will give you more important things to do.
Finally, if you succeed, you will get respect from people and do more for our world.
Robots are very important in our daily life now. People like robots because they can do things for us. They can do housework. They can deal with data (处理数据) fast. Some people think robots can do everything nicely. But some things that are easy for us are difficult for robots. For example, robots have difficulty picking up things. This may make you feel surprised because even babies can pick up things easily. That's because our brains tell us how to use our hands to hold things. But robots can't understand these kinds of things. So they often break or drop things.
Many scientists are trying to deal with this problem. Among them is Ken Goldberg from the University of California, Berkeley, the US. He has studied the problem for years. Finally, he came up with an answer to the question. He built a database for robots. All kinds of information about a thing, such as its size and shape, are in the database. Before a robot picks up a thing, it can find the information about the thing. In this way, the robot can pick up the thing easily.
Today, my classmates and I had a study tour to the City Science Museum. It took us hour to get there by bus.
In the museum, we (see) many kinds of inventions such as robots, rocket models, some dinosaurs and so . What's more, we took part in many (meaning) activities. For example, I used a 3D (print) to make a small bridge. Tony, the (good) friend of mine, took quite a few (photo) at the museum. we were a bit tired, we thought the study tour was educational for us. We had learnt a lot of knowledge on science and technology outside the classroom.
However, the lunch we had during the trip didn't taste good at all. That's why I suggest that students should bring their own food by (them) on next visit. This way, they can eat more (enjoy) meals and also keep their energy up throughout the learning adventure.
