Michael and I did not know when the waiter put the plates on our table. At the time we were sitting in a small restaurant, hidden from the busy Third Street, in New York City. Even the smell of fresh serving blintze did not interfered our conversation. In fact, we let the blintze soaked in the sour cream. We just enjoy the conversation too much that we forgot to eat. Our conversation was so delightful though we did not speak about important things. We laughed and spoke about the film which we have just watched.
While our fun conversation continued, my eyes went across the room and stop on the corner. A couple of old folks sat in there. The woman wearing the flower dress with faded color, the same with the pillow where she laid her pallid handbag. The man's top head shined just like the boiled egg which he ate very slowly. The woman chewed her oatmeal(燕麦片) very slowly too, seemed with very much effort.
But what made my mind thought about them was the silence around them. Michael and I paid our food and went on. When we passed the corner where the couple sat, my wallet fell. When I stopped to get it, I saw under the table, they were tenderly holding each other's hand. They were eating in silence while holding each other's hand! I was very touched to see the simple yet the very meaningful action reflecting the close relationship of the couple.
Their silence was the pleasant and relaxing one, it was the expression of the tender love and it did not always need the words to express it. They might spend the hours holding each other's hand like this in the morning.
When I and Michael went out of the restaurant, I thought, maybe it was nothing bad at all if some day we have something like that. Maybe, it will become the expression of the tender and complete love.
When asked to point out one or two things that are most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, clothes and cars.
A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines who we are and keeps us connected. It is a treasure we should protect. Unfortunately, the better friends you are, the more probably you'll have disagreements. And the result can be what you don't want — an end to the relationship.
The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended. First, don't let your pride get in your way. Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open. Second, apologize when you're wrong — even if you've been wronged. Over the course of a friendship, even the best people make mistakes. Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes. When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit(承认) that he has been wrong. Third, see things from your friend's point of view. And finally, accept that friendships change as our needs and lifestyle change. Making friends can sometimes seem easy. The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the natural ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships. My suggestion: consider friendship as an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure and nurture(培养).
Every year, about 600 monkeys are invited to eat fruits and vegetables during an annual feast(盛宴)in Thailand. It is said that Rama once rewarded his friend Hanuman, the Monkey King, with some land. Organizers of the annual Monkey Buffet use more than 3,000 kg of fruits and vegetables to prepare for the feast.
This event is held in England. Though it might sound very gentle, it is actually very dangerous. Running down a very steep hill behind a 7-pound wheel of cheese can be very dangerous. In fact, the police have attempted to ban the event, but participants have refused to carry out the ban. Men and their cheese wheels cannot be separated so easily. Simple: the cheese is set rolling down the hill, and the racers run down the hill after the cheese. However, as the cheese can reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, it rarely happens that someone catches the cheese.
In this festival, grown men jump over newborns, with their parents' permission. This custom has been observed since 1620; any onlookers who seem to be in need of "cleaning" also get involved in the event.
This Naked (裸的) Festival is held in dozens of places throughout Japan every year, usually in summer or winter. Hidden somewhere in these men is one fully naked man, and touching him is believed to bring good luck.

D. The first to reach the bottom wins the cheese.
E. It is held in honor of Rama, the greatest of the Gods.
F. There is a Japanese festival where participants wear little clothing.
G. Wearing scary costumes, the Spanish men attempt to "clean" babies of evil (邪恶).

I asked Jack, a friend of mine, what has happened to him that night. He said that he had just got into bed on about half past eleven when the floor began to shake under him. The bed was also started shaking. He jumped out of his bed rapid and wanted to turn the light on. But the floor was shaking such violently that he could hardly reach the lamp. It seemed to take him long time to get to it and turned it on. Then he went to look out of the window. He saw that the houses on the other side of the street was also shaking. Then he knew that was happening — an earthquake! He quickly put on his clothes and ran out into the street to waiting until it was safe to go back inside.
There are all kinds of festivals throughout the world. Club sports — for those just like sports
Many colleges have established many club sports, to meet a special interest or fill a gap an intercollegiate(校际的) team is not available. Some of sports, like fencing, crew and rugby, are sometimes (compete) for club members. They are often played with other colleges and sometimes with community groups. These clubs give you the opportunity (play) a sport you love or learn a sport that is new to you. The one drawback(缺点) to club sports is colleges often don't fund(提供资金) them. In these cases, club members have to work hard to organize fund-raisers and collect money to keep their sports (go).
Club sports are less time-consuming other athletic items, and you can easily miss a practice or even a competition if your academic or work commitments are (particular) demanding at a certain point. You can also leave a club sport if you find it just isn't working out. However, it's (worthy) it to stick with a club sport for a while.
Most colleges have a full range of teams, so you can attend sports competitions year-round. At bigger schools, larger sports, like football and basketball, may attract fans from all over the area. (small) sports, however, will also attract a group of fans.
