"Don't sleep in class, Jack!" shouted the teacher. "You are 1, sir," Jack stood up and said, "I'm thinking about the question now. I'm not 2."
"I'm sorry," said the teacher. "Would you like 3 my question?" asked the teacher. "Certainly," said Jack. "What is it?" "Why does the moon sometimes look like a(n) 4 and sometimes look like a sickle(镰刀)?" asked the teacher. "Oh, this question is 5," said Jack. " 6 it is full, it looks like a plate. It 7 like a sickle when it is 8, just like my stomach." Jack's answer made the class 9. The teacher was unhappy.
"Why do we have the sun in the 10 and don't have the sun at night?" "This question is easier than that one," said Jack. "When we work in the day, we need the sun. When we go to bed at night, we don't need the sun."
Tom is a junior high student. He is good at some subjects but his favourite subject is chemistry. Yesterday he met some trouble when he had his chemistry class.
At that moment, Tom was doing an experiment in class. He tried twenty times, but he couldn't succeed. So he decided to stop doing the experiment. He felt really unhappy.
His teacher came up to him and asked why he was unhappy. Tom said, "All my work is in vain (白费力气). I fail twenty times and I get nothing."
Tom's teacher touched Tom's head with a smile. He said to Tom, "Oh, you do a lot and you can get a lot from the mistakes. At least, you know that there are twenty ways you can't use to do this experiment."
After hearing the teacher's words, Tom became excited. He kept doing the experiment, improved his methods, and he succeeded at last.
Mike had a nice blue cup which he liked best. It was a present from his aunt for his fifteenth birthday last year. He cleaned it once a day and took good care of it. His cat, Mimi, was very naughty(淘气的) and sometimes it could make some trouble(麻烦) for Mike.
The day before yesterday, the cup was broken(打破) by his cat. He felt unhappy. Susan saw him and asked, "You look sad. What's the matter with you?"
Mike said, "There is something wrong with my cup."
Susan said, "Don't worry. I can repair it."
Mike felt surprised and asked, "Repair? You can repair it? You?"
"Yes. Believe me! Where is it?" Susan answered.
"Here. My cup is broken. Are you sure you can repair it?" Mike took out his broken cup.
"Ha……, I made a mistake(错误). I think your__1__ is broken," Susan said.
Hearing what Susan said, Mike couldn't help laughing.
Reading is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons.
First, reading is fun. You can always keep yourself happy if you like reading. You will never feel bored or tired.
Next, you can read a book anywhere—in a car, on a plane, or even in the bathroom. All you need is a book!
Another good reason for reading is that it is useful. If you read as a hobby, you will get better and better at it. And you will read faster and find it easier to understand what you read. As your reading skills improve, you will probably find your schoolwork becomes much better.
Some people say that reading is out of date (过时的). This is not true. You can read on computers, and the better you read, the better your computer skills will be.
Good readers may become writers, too. They always have more things to write about.
Reading is a wonderful hobby. Why not start reading right now?
I had a summer camp with my classmates for a week last year.
Early in the morning, we gathered(聚集) at the bus station. After saying goodbye to our parents, we got on the buses. It took us more than two hours to arrive at the campground.
We got off the buses happily. Laughing and shouting, we jumped and ran all over the place. It was the first time for us to be away from the parents. Some of us started to feel homesick(想家). However, when the night party and dances began, we felt excited again.
The next day, everybody rushed to the boating class, hoping to be at the head of the others. At first, my friends and I worked hard, but the boat wouldn't listen to us and kept going round and round. Then the teacher taught us how to work together. After many tries, we did much better.
Swimming class was my favourite. It was about the hottest time of a day and the best time to stay in the cool water. The swimming teacher was a funny man, and during the class he often made us laugh happily. During the week I learned a lot of new things and made many new friends. I also learned how to take care of myself.
Do you go to school every day by bike or in your parents' car? The American English teacher Margaret told her story about taking a school bus in America:
When I was a primary school student, I loved taking the school bus. It was interesting to talk to my friends and play games on the bus. It was like children-only party every morning and afternoon. On the school bus there was only one adult(成年人)—the driver. Most of the time, we were well-behaved because we liked the driver and didn't want to make him unhappy. But one day, one of the boys made a face (做鬼脸) at a policeman(警察) driving behind our bus. The policeman made our bus drive stop. Then he scolded(训斥) the naughty boy loudly. We were all very good after that!
It wasn't comfortable for young people to wait for the school bus in winter because it was very cold, especially when there were strong winds. Some students in cities had bus shelters(遮挡), but country children had to jump up and down to warm up. Hurry up, spring!
