Just after exams, Helen decided to go shopping. "I must get some 1 for the holidays," she thought. "I need some 2 pants because it'll be hot, but not so thin and I need a dark colour because I'll travel on long-distance buses."
And Helen went to her favorite 3 but they didn't have the right kind of pants for her. So she tried two more shops 4 without any luck. Then she walked into "Off Your Butt". She didn't usually shop there because the clothes were too 5 for her.
Helen 6 out a pair of pants. They looked just right dark blue, and the material(材料) was strong but not heavy. She tried on two different 7.
"I'll take the larger pair," she said. It's 8 sitting for hours in a bus if your pants are too tight(紧)," she thought.
Oh! She'd forgotten to look at the price. They must be more than she had wanted to 9! Then Helen had a nice surprise. "Really? Have you got the 10 right?"
"Everything is half-price this week. We're getting the new clothes for the autumn next week." "That was lucky!" said Helen.
School trips are one of the things that school children hope for about school. They are one way to show children that they can also learn much outside the classroom.
A good side of having a school trip is that children can use the learned or the learning things in class in true life. Knowledge in science and maths can be used. Then students will remember their lessons well. Also, students will have first-hand information on how their school subjects work outside classroom. For example, a visit to a museum can not only learn about history but can also learn about science or geography.
What's more, always learning in classroom may make some kids lose interest in a subject. This is really true for some difficult subjects. However, kids can learn in new environments during school trips and take on as much information as they want and can.
School trips also help kids get to know each other in a more relaxed environment, without thinking about tests or grades.
Showing students the larger world around them can really help them learn more.
One of my favourite things to do is hiking in mountains. Because nobody likes the idea of getting lost, I always prepare before every trip. But what's the best navigation tool, a Global Positioning System (GPS) or a good old map and compass? Five of my friends and I hiked through the mountains on a trail I marked. One team of three carried a GPS, and the other team used a map and compass.
It took the GPS team 3 hours and 11 minutes to get through the whole hike, however, it took the map and compass team only 2 hours and 49 minutes. The biggest problem the GPS team met was that they lost the satellite signal (卫星信号) in some places. With no map or compass, they had to walk around until they were in a place where the signal was good. The map and compass team was able to spot(认出) different landmarks, compare them to their maps and then use the compass to point them in the right direction.
When I head out on my future hikes, I'm bringing a map, a compass and a GPS to show me the way.
Annie, a neighbor's daughter, is a sweet girl but just a bit shy. Her birthday's coming, but she felt lonely and was not happy. Her family is quite small and poor, so there wouldn't be any birthday visitors.
I wanted to send her a special gift to make her happy. I got an idea! I bought some balloons, streamers(彩带), birthday hats, and so on at a store.
I took a small recorder(录音机) and asked three friends to sing Happy Birthday and send some birthday wishes to her. It was funny! When other people found out what we were doing, they added their voices, so it really sounded like we had a party going on!
Then I put a card, some mini balloons and streamers in a beautiful box. When I arranged(布置) everything, it was like opening a mini birthday party!
Finally, I added a pack of cupcakes and a box of birthday candles and then sent it to Annie.
I got a call a few days later. Annie said her roommate and one of their neighbors in the dorm all liked the gift. She sounded so happy and I was so glad that she had some friends to share with her. And Annie told me it was the funniest birthday she can remember.
I'm very happy to my aunt from America.
