Fourteen-year-old Emma Peters is talking about her coming summer holidays.
“Soon it will be the summer holidays again.I'm not going away with my parents this year but I don't1.I'm going to2my time with two of my classmates，Bella and Lou.
“We've just staffed a band(乐队).We call it Sunshine.I play the guitar and sing.Bella plays the piano and Lou plays the drums.We3in Lou's dad's garage(车库)and we also play in small coffee shops.We're4very good friends.We
love and care for each other.I was in a different band last year but that wasn't so much5.No one Wanted to practice.
“We've written several songs and we have our own website(网站).Over the summer holidays we are going to make a CD6ten or maybe twelve songs on it.We're not quite sure yet.We haven't finished writing all the songs， 7we've decided on the name of the CD.We're going to call it The Red Room.The CD may not make8famous，but that doesn't matter—we just enjoy our music and hope to9it with other people.I can't think of a better10to spend the summer holidays.”

When people ask Kazumi．“What do you do?”,she answers．“I'm a dentist．”Then she watches for the look on their faces．She can see that they are thinking．“I don't like dentists．”She understands how they feel．They are afraid of the drills and pain(钻头和疼痛)．
Kazumi does not want her patients (病人) to feel scared．She takes time to talk to them and make them less afraid．She tells them．“I'm going to be as gentle (温柔的)as I can．I don't like pain myself !”
When she was a child．Kazumi did not like going to the dentist．She never expected to become one herself．She used to think about becoming a reporter when she grew up．She was interested in talking with different people．Now Kazumi has a different job，but communication is still a big part of her job．She needs to talk with her patients．They need to understand each other．
Kazumi feels great about her job．She gives three reasons why she is glad to be a dentist．First of all，she knows that she makes her mother happy．Her mother is glad that Kazumi can support herself．She told her daughter, “You won't have to depend on others．It's good for you!”Kazumi also likes working with her hands．A dentist needs great control of very small movements．“I think I have good hands for this kind of work，”she says．Finally, she likes learning new things．As a dentist, she learns from experience and from talking with her boss(老板)．Every Friday afternoon, she talks with her boss about her problems at work，and he gives her advice．She has learned a lot from him．

Dear Diary,
What a day! I started at my new school this homing and had a great time．I made lots of new fiends and really liked my teachers．I was so nervous last night．but I had no reason to be．Everyone was so friendly．They made me feel at home!
The day started very early at 7：00 a．m．I had breakfast with my mom．She could tell(看出)that I was very anxious ． Mom kept asking me what was wrong．I thought she knew that l was nervous about starting at a new school．She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone would be friendly and love me．
My mom dropped me off(让我下车)at the school gate at about 7：50 a．m．A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving(挥手)at me．She ran over and told me her name was Abigail．It turned out that we were in the same class．Abigail was very nice and we became close fight away．We spent all morning together and began to talk with another girl called Stacey．The three of us sat together in class all day and we even made our way home together! Time went by so quickly．Our teacher told us that tomorrow we would really start learning and developing new skills．
It is late now so I am going to sleep，but I cannot wait until tomorrow! I believe I'm going to enjoy my time at my new school! I hope that my new friends feel the same too．
