Can a kangaroo (袋鼠) live in the tree? Look at the picture! There is a orange and brown animal in the tree. It is a kind of kangaroo—the Matschie's tree kangaroo.
Matschie's tree kangaroos weigh between 7 and 11 kilos and they can live up 20 years. Each of them has a long tail like the other kangaroos, but there are some difference between them. Matschie's tree kangaroos have longer and stronger front legs and thick fur (软毛).
Matschie's tree kangaroo's food including tree leaves, flowers and grass. Mother tree kangaroos give birth to one baby each time. Do you know how the baby lives? Of course in the pouch (育儿袋) of the mother. The baby lives in it for about ten months.
The number of Matschie's tree kangaroos becomes little now because people cut down trees and kill them for meat and fur. They are dangerous and they really need protection. Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program is doing research in tree kangaroos. We hope there will be more tree kangaroos in the future.
