Humans have been trying to cure cancer for many years. But what if our bodies themselves are able to kill cancer? The winners of this year's Nobel Prize in Medicine may have found this secret. From Oct. 1st to Oct. 8th, the 2018 Nobel Prize winners were announced in five categories (类别), including prizes for medicine, chemistry, physics, peace and economics (经济).
One of the most amazing Nobel-winning achievements(成就) this year was in Medicine. James Allison from the United States and Tasuku Honjo in Japan shared the prize, the BBC reported. They found that our body has a special protein(蛋白质). It stops our body from fighting against cancer cells. By disabling this protein, they can allow the body's immune(免疫的) system to fight cancer cells more efficiently, the New York Times reported.
But cancer is not the only problem that people face. There is also the danger of global warming. This year's winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics focused on this in their work. The economics prize was shared by two scientists. They found that creating a global carbon tax (税) is the most efficient way to fight climate change. This would make countries limit their carbon emissions(排放) or else pay a large amount of money.
The Nobel Prize in Physics was given to three scientists who made new discoveries in laser (激光) physics. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was also shared among three scientists for their research on enzymes (酶) and antibodies (抗体).
