The 54-year-old man had a dream. He wanted to make a difference. He worked hard and founded Alibaba. The company changed the way people shop. It grew to be one of the world's biggest companies. It also helped Ma become one of the richest people in China.
However, Ma wanted to do more. On September 10, he said he would retire from his company next year. He would turn to education.
Ma is always interested in education. Before he entered the business world, he was an English teacher. He taught in a college in Hangzhou for six years.
With much money now, Ma wants to focus on charity(慈善). He creates a foundation (基金会) to make education better in rural China. His name on Sina Weibo is "a spokesman for village teachers."
"I love teaching," Ma said. "It's something I think I can do much better than being a CEO."
