Ryan was 6 years old when a talk by his grade one teacher changed his life. She told the1about people in Africa who had a very2time getting clean water and access to wells. African people,3children, can get sick and sometimes4. Deeply moved, Ryan persuaded his parents to5him to do extra chores and finally earned $70, which he thought was enough to drill a6.
But WaterCan, a non-profit organization that provides7water to poor countries, told him that it would need $2,000 to drill a well. Ryan didn't8. He got very busy doing more chores and9his fundraising. Several months later he10 collected the $2,000. He11the money to WaterCan and in January, 1999, Water Can drilled a well beside Angolo Primary School in northern Uganda, with funds12by Ryan.
Since the first well was dug, Ryan's Well Foundation has raised over $800,000 to provide clean water to people in13. And others have also14along the way, including his school, and The World Health Organization
In the past 18 months, Ryan has15across the world, like Japan, China, and England, making speeches, to16others to spread his "seeds of hope". His Ryan's Well Foundation has supported water projects that have been completed or are under17in many African countries. Ryan has met many18people and even been blessed by the Pope(教皇) but he19he is "just a normal boy". His mother Susan says, "In his heart we all make a20as long as we help the people in need."
