Jeremy was a strange and rich doctor. He spent lots of time planting trees instead of saving lives. He had a large field and wanted to make it a forest.
The good doctor had some interesting ideas about planting trees. He never watered his new trees. Once I asked why. He said that watering plants was bad to them, and that if you watered them, each baby tree would grow weaker and weaker, so you had to pick them out early on.
He had different ideas about how to water trees with shallow roots. “The trees without enough water had to grow deep roots for water under the earth by themselves. Deep roots were very important', He said to me once.
So he never watered his trees. What's more, he beat them with a roll-up (卷起 的)newspaper. I asked him why he did that, “I want to wake them up,” he replied. Jeremy passed away three years after I worked in another city. But the trees are growing big and strong now.
Now I have a perfect family. Mostly I pray (祈祷) that their life will be easy. But lately I've been thinking to change it. I know my children are going to face difficulties. They need to have a deep root so that when the rains fall and the winds blow, they can face it strongly.
