The Origin and Development of Hats
Hats are a type of covering for the head. As the old saying goes,"If you want to get ahead, then get a hat."
It is hard to say when hats were produced and who invented them. One thing for certain, the first hat was made of animal skin to fight against the cold weather.Although this was not a hat in the true, sense, people began to realize that covering their heads could be warm and comfortable.
One of the first hats was known from a painting in a tomb. It showed a manwearing a simple conical （圆锥形的） straw hat. However, for a long time, hats were only made for men.But these hats were based on those of male ministers.
Hats that were specifically designed for women were first made in 1529. In the late 17tn century, women's hats appeared with its own style. They were not influenced by men's hat fashions.
During the first half of the 19thcentury, the bonnet （软帽） played a leading role in Women's fashion. By the end of the century, although bonnets were still popular, many other styles of hats came into existence.
Recently, hats have become a symbol of social status. There are still two basic Forms—rcaps and hats. Besides, more features like ribbons, pictures, shapes are added.
