Life is full of surprises. Xie Yi, a Chinese chemist, knows this well.
On March 18, Xie received the L'Oreal 一 UNESCO for Women in Science Awards for her achievement in chemistry, It is known as the female (女性的) "Nobel Prize" in science.
Xie is a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. She has discovered new nanomaterials (纳米材料) that can efficiently turn heat into electricity.
But unlike many other scientists, Xie's favourite wasn't chemistry when she was young, Anhui Daily reported.
Born in Anhui Province. Xie was about physics in high school. She always moved to the front row in the classroom to get listening.
But she didn't do well in physics in the college entrance examination (高考) and was admitted as a chemistry major at Xiamen University.
She told Anhui Daily that she didn't fell upset. "I did what I had to do and I think it's better to let nature take its course (顺其自然)." she said. She kept hard. She went to the lab early and let late. She went through many failures, but her positive attitude has carried her far in the chemistry world.
