My name is Anna Brown. Three years ago, I had a car accident and lost my left arm.
At first, I was depressed and lost interest in anything.
However, several months after I left the hospital, I read about two inspiring athletes who overcame their disabilities and I was greatly inspired.
Today, I'd like to tell you about them. The first one is Jason Lester.
When Jason Lester was 12 years old, he was hit by a car. One of his arms was severely injured.
At that time, people could never have dreamed that many years later, he'd be a world-class sports champion.
But today, he can run unbelievably long distances and he can swim faster and ride further than most people with no disabilities.
He does it all without the full use of his right arm.
In 2009, he was named the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, SB Award Winner for Best Male Athlete with a Disability.
The second one is Melissa Stockwell. In 2004, Melissa Stockwell lost her leg when a roadside bomb exploded.
She was a diver in high school before the accident. After she got injured, she didn't want to leave water forever just because of the accident.
She kept on swimming. At last, she trained to compete in the 2008 Paralympic Games for the US team.
In the 2008 Paralympic Games, she became the record holder for the 100-meter butterfly and the 100-meter freestyle.
Their stories encouraged me that I can really do amazing things, whether we're disabled or not.
My name is Anna Brown.
