Many people think that cities don't have farms and that people only grow fruit and vegetables in the countryside. However, they are wrong. There are more and more farms in cities all over the world. According to Ms. Sullivan, a person studying urban agriculture (都市农业) in New York City, "There was urban agriculture long long ago."
More and more people live in cities now. And more and more people want to garden in city areas. Ms. Sullivan said, "In small gardens, on the rooftops and indoors, city people grow fruit and vegetables or raise animals to produce vegetables, eggs, honey, and meat." However, they still need to live on food grown in the countryside. This is because a city doesn't have enough places to grow enough food for everyone.
In New York City, there aren't a lot of places for growing food, but city farmers use many different ways to grow things. For example, Brooklyn Grange has three rooftop vegetable farms in New York City.
Brooklyn Grange grows tomatoes, potatoes and many other things. It sells its vegetables to people and restaurants in its city. People use the place that is not needed for anything else. As more urban farmers find ways to grow food in cities, people in the city will be able to get fresher vegetables for their meals.
