The Witch（女巫）looks at Dorothy(多萝西) andsees the silver shoes on her feet. She knows they are special shoes. She wantsthem. But how can she take them from the girl? She must wait for the rightmoment. She takes Dorothy to the kitchen.
"You are my slave(奴隶) now!" she says. "You must work forme."
"You must wash the floorevery day!" she says. "Then you must do the washing-up! And don'tforget! I'm watching you!"
The days pass. Dorothy worksvery hard in the kitchen. She remembers Uncle Henry and Aunt Em in Kansas. Sheremembers her friends the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. She's very sad and sheoften cries. At night, she goes to see the Lion. The Witch doesn't give himanything to eat or drink, so Dorothy takes him food and water from the kitchen.
The Witch watches Dorothy allthe time. She is waiting for the right moment to take the silver shoes. Dorothywears them all the time. The only time she takes them off is when she has abath. The Witch is afraid of water, so she is afraid to go near the girl whenshe is in the bath. She just waits....
