Old people can now buy "grandkids" online if they feel lonely. Using a new app named Papa, old people can call on young people to visit them. Papa allows them to find "grandchildren" who will spend time with them and carry out small tasks.
Now Papa isavailable as a mobile app and a telephone line for those without smartphones in Miami, Florida. To use the service, old people first need to contact (联 系) Papa through either of these ways. Then Papa's workers provide free talks with them to see how they can find proper college students to visit the old people.
The app needs the old to pay $15 an hour and the young visitors get at least $10 per visit. According to different types of trips, the young visitors get different pay.
According to its founder, Andrew Parker, most young visitors can make $20~$30 per visit. Every visit lasts for around three hours.
Mr Parker, from the United States, founded the app because he couldn't spend time with his grandfather. He named the app after his grandfather and is now hoping more people from America, the UK and Japan can use it in the future. Besides, he believes it can also provide other groups with services in the future, such as taking care of children and caring for adults with autism (孤独症).
Papa also provides an online education, helping the old have video chat with their grandchildren.
