Born on December 30, 1984. LeBron James is an American basketball player who now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA. He has been considered the best basketball player in the world and praised by some as the greatest player of all time. People call him "King James, or the Chosen One", and compare him to his hero Michael Jordan.
The 36-year-old player has surprised the world again and again since he joined the league in 2003. James has led his team into the NBA finals for nine times and won the championship for three times in two teams. He has won four NBA MVP awards and two Olympic gold medals. On November 15, 2018, LeBron became the fifth place on the all-time scoring list of the NBA.
When James was growing up, life was often a struggle (挣扎) for his family. He had to move from place to place in the neighbourhoods of Akron while his single mother kept looking for a job to support the family. When he was nine, his mother allowed James to move in with Frank Walker, a local youth football coach who introduced James to basketball.
Off the court, the successful basketball player never forgets where he comes from. As an active supporter of non-profit (非营利) social organizations, James set up his own charity, the LeBron James Family Foundation, in his hometown Akron. Since 2005, the charity has held a cycling race every year to raise money for many causes. On July 30, 2018, a public elementary school, I Promise School, was built in Akron. It will help poor children stay in school and finish the basic education.
