Last Friday, Mr. Smith said to his students, "I'd like each of you to recite (背诵)a poem for Parents' Night. We don't have a lot of time to prepare, so you'll have to work hard. "
She imagined herself forgetting the poem. She pictured the audience(观众)laughing.
After school Carrie went to her mother for help. "I have to recite a poem, "Carrie said, "but I'm not even sure how to start."
Carrie's mother took her to the library. And Carrie picked a book that had some poems about the ocean. She borrowed the book and took it home.
Carrie worked hard. First she chose a poem and remembered it. Finally she recited the poem for her parents.
"Speak a little louder," her father said.
"I'll never be good at this, "Carrie thought, but she went on practicing.
Parents' Night finally arrived. It was Carrie's turn to perform. She was a bit nervous. She performed very well. When she finished, the audience applauded(鼓掌). Carrie was proud of herself.
