National Volunteer Week started in 1974 and held every April. It is a time to thank (volunteer) for what they did in the past for the people in need. It is also a good chance (机会) to encourage (鼓励) others to take (they) first step to become a volunteer. Making the decision to take the first step can be the biggest problem, they often don't know if they will be able to do it well. Some people are afraid of not knowing (someone) else in the group, while others don't have enough time to take part in it.
The following tips can help you have some of these worries. Start out slowly, and don't push yourself too hard. Even few hours a month can make a big (different) to someone's life.
Choose an organization with the same interests and common values. Take part in a training meeting for new volunteers so that you will be to do the job well.
Work with a veteran volunteer. He volunteered a lot and he can tell you a lot about the volunteer work and help you get used to it (quick).
Invite a friend or family member to serve. It is a good experience and — to remember that not all volunteer experiences are great. If one experience doesn't work, don't give and you will surely find the right chance.
