China is a big country with 56 ethnic groups (少数民族). Besides the (large) group Han, the other 55 ethnic groups all have their [əun]traditional clothing.
Mongolians (蒙古族人) long and thick gowns (长袍) made of animal fur. For the Miao people, men wear short coats and trousers, [wail]women wear shining silver decorations.
Because they have different lifestyles, the clothing worn by each ethnic group is different.
Mongolians and Tibetans (藏族人) make a living by (raise) animals outside, so long gowns and boots make them. Some ethnic groups plant crops such as cotton. So their clothing is usually made cotton.
Nowadays, some ethnic groups[pri'fəː] casual clothes. But most of (they) have traditional clothing to wear on special days and festivals. If you travel to Yunnan or Sichuan, you may come across local girls wearing long (skirt) and silver head-wear in certain scenic spots.
