Stephen Hawking was a British scientist. Many people think he was the greatest scientist after Albert Einstein. On March 14, 2018, Hawking died at the age of 76, in Cambridge.

As a. scientist, Hawking was most famous for studying black holes. He thought that the universe(宇宙)started with the Big Bang(大爆炸) and will end in black holes. Black holes took in everything around them even light. But he believed that black holes will disappear one day.

Hawking s studies changed how people look at the universe. He also wrote books to help more people understand the universe. A Brief History of Time(时间简史》) written In1988 is one of his most popular books.

However, people admire Hawking not only because of his talents. They also admire him because of his strong will.

Hawking had a bad illness for his whole life, starting from when he was 21. He could not walk or talk. For some time, he had no way to talk with others except by blinking(眨眼). He had to sit on a wheelchair with a computer by his side. To communicate, he moved two fingers to control the computer. He chose his words from the screen. They were then spoken by a voice synthesizer(语音合成器). However, his illness didn't stop him from living a meaningful life. He travelled around the world. He wrote books. He even played himself on many TV shows.

Just as his children said after his death, Hawking was a great scientist and an extraordinary(卓越的) man, His works and legacy will live on forever.
