At the age of 3, Yuan Xin was hit by a car while crossing the road with his mother. He stayed in hospital for five months. To save his life, doctors cut off his right arm.
Soon, Yuan reached school age. Before sending him to school, his mother taught him how to write with his left hand. From primary school to middle school, Yuan always got good grades. Although other students sometimes laughed at him, Yuan never gave up. When he felt upset, his mother was always there to cheer him up.
In high school, Yuan got friendship and support (支持) from his classmates and teachers. Together, they prepared for gaokao. Yuan's dream was to become a doctor. He wanted to save people like his grandmother. She died on the first day of his exam. However, having one arm meant he could never be a doctor. Later, Yuan chose to study computer science at university.
But Yuan never touched a computer before. He had to work hard to keep up with others. Now he still gets better grades than others and he's got many prizes. "I am slower, but I can work harder," he always says.
