Both in their sixties, Wan Zuocheng and Xiong Gengxiang are a very ordinary couple living in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. They run open-air kitchen near Jiangxi Cancer Hospital. Since 2003, it (serve) as a shared "anti-cancer kitchen".
At first, the couple sold snacks next to the cancer hospital. When the stall (摊位) was closed, some family (member) of patients would come to borrow the stove (炉子) for cooking, and the couple never turned them . As more and more people came to ask help, Wan and his wife bought more than a dozen sets of kitchen utensils (厨具) and stoves. And at most, nearly 6,300 people a day came to cook. Since all the kitchen things are shared, the kitchen is (wide) known as the "anti-cancer kitchen". And the people who come to cook are very (thank) for the couple.
To keep the "anti-cancer kitchen" (run), Wan and his wife started charging (收费) half a yuan for each dish cooked. when coal prices rose, they could no longer make ends meet( 使收支相抵). So Wan's wife decided to charge one yuan for cooking each dish and Wan agreed with (she).
The kitchen is free to use during the Spring Festival every year. The couple try their best to make the patients and their family feel at home and bring warmth to them.
