The world was like an egg once upon a time. Out of the world, there was a shell (壳). It prevented all lights and sounds from entering the world, there were two kinds of energy. One was light. The other was heavy. In the center of the world lived a smart man named Pan Gu. Pan Gu liked to sleep.
After a long sleep of eighteen thousand years, Pan Gu finally woke up. He found the world was too small for him, and he couldn't live a happy life. So he picked up an axe (斧子) next to him and broke the shell,. As soon as he did that, the two kinds of energy began to separate. The light one went up and became the sky. The heavy one came down and became the earth.
To make sure that the sky and the earth wouldn't close, Pan Gu lifted the sky up with his head and stood on the earth with his feet. Thousands of years later, he was too tired and died. After Pan Gu's death, his left eye became the sun and his right eye became the moon. His hair turned into the stars in the sky, Pan Gu's trunk (躯干) became tall mountains. His teeth and bones(骨头) became stones.
This is the story of Pan Gu's opening up the world.
