Elton loved swimming, boating and riding his bike in summer. When it snowed, he was always sad. He just wanted to stay inside.
Here came the first snow this year. After lunch, the doorbell rang (门铃响了）. It was Penelope, Elton's next-door neighbor. "Elton，would you like to come outside and make a snowman with me?" Penelope asked. Elton wrinkled (皱起）his nose.
"Yes, yes. Elton would like to go." his mother said. She asked Elton to wear warm clothes and took him and his unhappy face outside. Penelope and Elton made the largest snowman in the neighborhood. At dinnertime, Elton came home happily, but the next morning, his unhappy face came back.
Then the doorbell rang again一it was Penelope.
"Elton, would you like to go snow-shoeing?" asked Penelope, with two pairs of snowshoes in her hands. Elton wrinkled his nose but said, "Sure, I think so."
Elton and Penelope put on the snowshoes and walked through the trees behind the house. At lunchtime, Elton came home without his unhappy face.
That afternoon, the doorbell rang once more—it was Penelope. "Elton, would you like to go sledding (乘雪橇)?" she asked. This time Elton put on his coat quickly and went out with Penelope.
Elton decided that he loved winter. "Winter could be a ___▲___ time of a year, too." he thought.
