Xu Yuanchong, China's most distinguished master translator, passed away in Beijingthe age of 100. Having translated about 120 Chinese poetry works into both EnglishFrench, he gained worldwide recognition.
Xu once(study) with Qian Zhongshu, Wu Mi and other Chinese masters at the National Southwest Associated University. In 1944, he was admitted into Tsinghua University. In 1948, he went to University of Paris for further study after(graduate) from Tsinghua University.
Xu devoted(he) to translation for more than 60 years. While doing translation, Xu would pay much attention tobeauty of image, sound and form, leaving something out and adding something to make the translated works(beautiful) than the original works. In 2010, Xu(award) the honour of Lifetime Achievements in Translation from the Translators Association of China. What's more, he was also the first Asian translator(win) the Aurora Borealis Prize for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature, which was one of the highest honors among international(translator).
