Deng Yaping, 28, from Henan Province, is a talented woman player of table tennis. She was the table tennis champion of the 11th Asian Games and the 41st World Table Tennis Championship. And in the 25th Olympic Games, she won two gold medals. Why can she make such brilliant achievements (辉煌成就) with the disadvantage (缺点) of her short figure? Her hard work and determination(决心) to succeed helped her to overcome (克服) many disadvantages. At the age of 4, she began to play table tennis under the guidance(指导) of her father. When she was 8, she won the championship in the national competition of the amateur (业余) sports school. In 1988, she became a member of the National Training Team.
Deng Yaping's achievements are not just in the world of table tennis. She surprised many upon retirement (退休) by deciding to study English in college. She went to Tsinghua University first and furthered her study at the University of Cambridge, getting a doctor's degree.
