China has made new rules limiting(限制) the time children can play online games. The new rules limit children to just three hours of game online playing a week. Children can play online games between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Fridays, weekends and public holidays.
The Chinese government has worried for years about gaming addiction(瘾) among children. It is reported that about 13 % of children play online games for more than two hours a day on weekdays. Government reports in 2018 found that about 10% Chinese children were addicted to the Internet.
Companies like Net Ease and Tencent have the responsibility (责任) for making sure children play for only three hours a week. They ask children to use their real names and ID card numbers when they log in to play.
Many young Chinese gamers are not happy with the rules. However, some parents are happy with the new government rules. Experts are not sure if such rules can help stop addiction to online games. Children might get addicted to social media instead. All in all, parents should be the ones to make limits and support good practices.
