Wangfujing Street is a busy shopping street in Beijing. You can buy books, clothes, shocs and many other things on this street.
The street is about 700 years old. In the past, lords(贵族) and princesses(王子) lived there. Next to one of the lord's houses, there was a well(井). Many people had no water to drink. However, the lord's well still had lots of water. This lord did not want to give the water to anyone. So he asked an old man to stand in front of the well and stop people taking water. He said, "My lord, if I don't give them water, they will die(死). " Finally, the lord agreed with the old man.
"Wangfu" means the lord's house and "jing" means the well.
