Have you ever heard of Liubao? Or have you ever been there before? Liubao is a town in the southwest of China. It sits in Wuzhou, Guangxi. People know the town because of its dark tea. Liubao tea is considered one of the best in our country and it was served to Emperor Jiaqing during the Qing Dynasty.
Why do people like Liubao tea so much? Experts say that Liubao is a wonderful place for tea production. The high quality (品质) tea is due to the suitable weather condition, enough sunshine, special soil and the elevation which is about 600 meters above sea level.
Each year in late October, villagers are busy picking tea. There is little rainwater and the tea leaves are considered to be the best because of the temperature difference between day and night at this time of year. Many tourists also come to the town to experience the special life then. They do what the villagers do: carry a bamboo basket on their shoulders and pick tea leaves. After hours' work, they usually relax by drinking a cup of tea, tired but happy.
The local government has developed tea and tourism over the years. From 2017 to 2020, the tea production went from 2,600 tons to 4,180 tons in that three-year period, with output value more than doubling from 310 million to 670 million yuan. For the next years, they will develop a different "tea street" and green tea parks for sightseeing and the output value of Liubao tea will reach more than 50 billion yuan in 2025.
