A few weeks ago I was traveling by train to visit a friend. After a few stations, the food supplier came around to 1 hot meals and drinks. Just behind him rushed in a little girl who put out her hand to 2 some food. The man was 3, throwing her out of the coach (车厢) and shutting the door.
Something in me, maybe the pleading (恳求的) look on the child's face, made me 4. I stepped outside the door and saw the child still standing there. I took her hand and said I would 5her some food. We walked back to the coach. The passengers there had a (n) 6 expression seeing the little girl with me. I asked her to choose whatever she wanted.
7there was so much food and I was 8 how her little stomach could eat all that food. While I turned to the cashier to pay the bill, she ran away. The cashier shook his head and said the girl must be laughing for having 9me into believing her misery (悲惨).
The cashier's words 10on my mind and I started 11 if the little girl had really fooled me, 12. I decided to follow the13 she had taken to see what she was up to. When I walked to a deserted (废弃的)14, I saw her sitting in a circle with two other little boys. The girl had put all the food in the 15and was putting food into the hand of a young boy. When they sensed my 16they went quiet. I bent down to the young girl, smiling and asking them to 17 eating.
I realized that I had received far more than I gave. This little girl taught me that there is more joy when you 18 and that even in poverty (贫穷) one can 19 his/her kindness. Above all, kindness springs from our20 and not the richness of environment.
