What if there is a fire in your house? Would you like to know what to do? Here are a few rules that you should follow to help you out of the fire. Leaving the house through a door should be your first choice as an escape route (逃生路线). Windows on a higher floor can also help you escape safely if you could get help from another person.
If you can see smoke in the house, stay low to the ground as you go to the door. In a fire, poisonous (有毒的) smoke leads to most of the deaths. Remember there is more smoke on the upper part of the house than the lower part. So if you stand up straight, you will take in more smoke.
If fire or smoke is blocking (堵塞) an escape route, don't hide under the bed. If you do this, firemen will have difficulty finding you. The sooner they find you, the sooner you can get out.
At the same time, keep heat and smoke from getting through the door by blocking the cracks (缝隙) around the door with blankets or clothes. If there is a window, open it all the way, stand in front of it and shout for help. If you can get a piece of clothes, cover your mouth to keep from taking in the smoke. This works even better if you make the clothes wet first.
If your clothes catch fire during a fire, don't run! You'd better stop, drop to the ground and roll. This will cut off the air and put out the fire.
