A serious tornado struck the town where Peggy Lewis and her husband Harris Lewis lived. The two suffered (injury) and were sent to hospital for treatment.
When they returned three days later, they saw that their house was ruins. For Peggy, the first thing she wanted to look for was her family Bible, a present (give) on her wedding day. For years, she had used it to record her family's history: family photos, letters and a handkerchief from her grandmother so on.
When two volunteers showed up to help the couple dig their way through the mess, she (beg) them to find it if possible. After two hours of searching, one of the volunteers ran up to her with a book (lie) in his hands. The book had flown meters away, but it was not badly damaged except that (it) cover was gone.
A few of the treasures inside the book did go missing. But ever slowly and (gradual) they too began reappearing in Lewis' life. Days after the Bible was found, volunteers discovered one of the photos outside the home. Two weeks later, a neighbor found handkerchief nearby. "It was such a shock, says Lewis, who could not control her(admire) for the miracle (奇迹).
