Here comes 2023, the Year of the Rabbit! Chinese people think rabbits are clever and agile(敏捷的). There are many Chinese idioms(习语) about rabbits. For example, people often say dongruo tuotu(动若脱兔) to praise(夸奖) people for their agile moves(行动). They also say jiaotu sanku(狡兔三窟) to praise clever people. That's because a clever rabbit always has many holes(洞). This makes it difficult for people to find it.
In Chinese culture(文化), the rabbit stands for(代表) the moon. People in the past think a rabbit lives on the moon. We call the rabbit the Jade Rabbit or the Moon Rabbit. It's the pet of the moon goddess(女神) — Chang'e. It makes medicine by grinding herbs(捣草药).
Why do people in the past like rabbits very much? Because rabbits can have a lot of babies in a short time. They think having more children could bring them luck and happiness.
So maybe the Year of the Rabbit can bring you some good luck, too!
