There once lived many frogs in a great pond. They bad an excellent home and all the food they wished, caring for nobody, and nobody troubled them.
But some of them as thought that this was not right. They should have a king, so they sent up a petit to God to give them what they wanted. "Dear God," they cried, "Send us a king that will rule over us and make us live a different life."
God laughed at them and threw down into the pond a huge log*. 1he frogs we're frightened out of their lives, and all rushed to the bank to look at the horrible monster. But after a time, seeing that it didn't move, one or two of the bravest of them ventured out towards the log, and even dared to touch it. Still the log didn't move at all.
Then the greatest hero of the frogs jumped upon the log and began lancing up and down on it. Finally, all the frogs came and did the same, and for some time the frogs went about their business every day without taking notice of their now King Log.
This didn't suit them. So the frogs went to ask God to give them a king which could take action. God sent them an eel, but the frogs thought the eel was too small and didn't look like a king. So the eel wasn't welcome in the pond. Then the frogs sent the petition to God for the last time, and said to him, "We all want a real king. The one that will really rule over us. "
_____▲____The frogs were given a stork as their king. They believed the stork was a real king, which could rule over them. But the stork ate all the frogs one by one until there was hardly any frog left in the whole pond.
