The national treasure of China—PANDA The giant panda is the national treasure of China. Chinese people love it, and people from many countries like it, too. The giant panda looks like a bear. It has black and white fur. It lives in bamboo forests in China. Bamboo is the panda's favourite. Ninety-nine percent (百分比) of the pandas diet is bamboo. Pandas sit while they eat. They eat a lot of bamboo a day. An adult giant panda eats about 14 kilograms (公斤) of bamboo each day. Pandas look fat and clumsy. But they are good climbers. They can climb tall trees. The giant panda has lived on earth for at least eight million (百万) years. The average life expectancy of a giant panda is 25 years, which is equivalent to 75 years in human life. With the effort of the Chinese Panda Conservation Programs (中国熊猫保育项目), the number of the pandas is rising. Now, China is doing its best to help the giant pandas return (返回) to their natural home. |
