Qu Yuan was a minister of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period. He is also known as the father of Chinese poetry. After he had lost hope in his country's future, he jumped into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The modern Dragon Boat Festival that is also called the Duanwu Festival started from that time to this day. People have commemorated(纪念)Qu Yuan on that day by posting poems on the door, eating zongzi, wearing incense bags and doing several other activities. The most important part of the tradition, however, is the dragon boat races. Nowadays, in Japan and Vietnam, as well as South Korea, the festival has mixed with and become part of the local culture. "No one can deny that it came from China, " said Long Haiqing, an expert from Hunan Province. We should know the Dragon Boat Festival is regarded as one of the traditional festivals throughout China forever.
