 It was around 10 o'clock at night and it was raining cats and dogs in our street. Everyone was at home，watching TV，reading or sleeping. However，my mom and I had to run back home from shopping to keep us from getting totally wet.  

 When we arrived home，I asked my mom to make some hot pancakes. It would be great to have pancakes during heavy rains. Later，we three sat at the table，having a good conversation as usual while eating delicious pancakes. Suddenly，we heard a noise from somewhere near my house. We got worried and went outside to see what happened.  

 We saw a dog，abandoned （遗弃） by someone near the pipe next to our house. I could hardly see any other puppies as cute as this dog，shaking and fully wet on that cold rainy night. I felt sorry for the dog and gave my pancakes and some bread to him. He ate it in just a few seconds. Then we decided to take him home. We gave him good food and a hot shower，and dried him with our own towel and named it Charlie.  

 Ever since that lucky rainy night，Charlie has been with us. Every day，he plays games happily with us and keeps thieves and unexpected guests out of our home. He loves us as much as we love him. Whenever I have trouble with others，Charlie，my pet dog，will always be there to support me.  

 Now he is our family member. When someone asks how many people there are in my family，I always say there are four，my mom，my dad，me and Charlie. My pet dog is the best gift I have received in my life.
