Thailand (泰国) carried out new COVID-19 restrictions (管制) to deal with a rapid increaser in COVID-19 cases recently. These restrictions were much (strict) than before. Since then, they (leave) its capital Bangkok's busy streets quiet and lots of taxi drivers have been out of work. So many drivers left Bangkok for (they)home villages, leaving so-called "taxi graveyards (墓地)" behind.
(wise), a company came up with an idea: turning the roofs of these taxis into small vegetable gardens. It promised (help) those out-of-work drivers and others. In an open-air parking area in the west of Bangkok, (worker) at the company built the tiny gardens by putting black plastic bags on bamboo frames (支架) and covering them with soil. They then planted many kinds of crops, (include) chillies, cucumbers and eggplants. It is hoped that after helping the drivers, any remaining vegetables can be sold at local markets.
The taxi trade in Bangkok depends heavily tourism (旅游业). But tourists have reduced to almost none because of strict rules on entering (进入) country.
"Many of the cars still have large outstanding loans (未偿贷款)," said one of the company owners. "We think we can grow vegetables on the roofs of these taxis. We will continue the work unless the situation (情况) gets (good). "
