Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games 冬奥会和冬残奥会
The Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are sporting events. The games are held (举行) every four years. Lots of athletes (运动员) come from countries around, the word (全世界) to compete (比赛) in the games.
There are lots of different sports in the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. They all take place on the ice and snow. Some athletes race down snowy slopes (雪坡) on skis (滑雪板) or on a sledge(雪橇), some perform (表演) dances on ice skates on an ice rink (滑冰场) and some play games, such as ice hockey (冰球) or curling.
Figure skating (花样滑冰) is when people using ice skates to dance on the ice. They perform lots of movements (动作), such as jumps, twists and balances. They usually move to music.
During speed skating (速滑) events, ice skaters race quickly around an icy track (赛道) .This is often in an oval (椭圆) shape. They compete to see who can get round the track in the quickest time. Sometimes skaters race by themselves and sometimes in teams (团队).
